Tutorial to Update Samsung Galaxy 3 to Android Froyo.

Well, I know it’s being a long time since the Android 3.0 is  and 2.3 even released for the tablets and smartphones in market (respectively), but still most the Android users haven’t got the taste of Android 2.2 (Froyo). As most of the companies are shipping mobiles with Eclair and not even releasing the updates users aren’t able to try it and one of the such company is Samsung. Remember Samsung promised us that they are coming for an Android update for Galaxy 3 this March, as they did for Galaxy s, but didn’t come? I remembered.

And today I was determined myself that somehow I would update my Galaxy 3 to the Froyo version and I did. Special thanks to the iGyaan Tutorial, which helped me out, and today I am gonna share the same with you. :)

Things Needed

  • Download the latest version of Kies.
  • Samsung original USB Cable.
  • Android Froyo firmware – Download Here (password =  samfirmware.com)
  • ODIN downloader (Download Here).
  • OPS files (click here to download).
  • Windows XP or later (I performed it on Windows 7, don’t worry if your Windows is genuine or not).

Notes to be READ CAREFULLY

  • First of all check you Android Firmare. Call ‘*#1234#’ and note it down (if you would have to restore it).
  • Not All Phones would work properly after UPDATING.
  • You must have BACK UP of your Mobile, before updating, you can download from:

  • Mobile should be fully charged.

Tutorial to Update:

  • Take out Battery from your mobile phone. I hope it’s fully charged.
  • Turn off your Galaxy, remove the battery, re-insert it and then Press the following buttons together: Home + Menu + Volume + Power
  • You would see a download screen on mobile like:

  • Connect Galaxy 3 with your ORIGINAL SAMSUNG USB. Let Windows recognise it and install the drivers.
  • After getting message that your device is ready to use, open ODIN DOWNLOADER.
  • Select One Package, Auto Reboot and Protect Ops boxes.
  • Extract the RAR (15800xxjpa) to get a .tar file.
  • Select the tar in ODIN DOWNLOADER.

  • Now click the ‘Start Button‘ and let it update the Phone, once done it would reboot the phone.
  • The first reboot would take around 2 minutes or may longer. It took me 2.75 minutes.
  • Glad. You have Froyo on your Galaxy 3 now. :)

Other Notes:

  • Messages won’t work on Froyo Galaxy 3, though you can install ‘Handcent SMS’ as an alternate and it would work as charm.
