Youtube Several of the best funded and most publicized tech launches of the last ten years have ended in failure. I have made a list of five biggest tech failures in last ten years yet and collected some details about them.

Five biggest tech failures of last decade are -

  • Vista – The security features of MS vista released worldwide on January 30th,07, were not good as the previous versions of Windows. Analysts also criticised Vista for being slower than Windows XP.
  • Gateway – Once among the top computer makers in the America, Gateway fell on bad times. Bought up by Acer for $710 mn (RS 3,301.5 cr) by “07, its failure was blamed on reluctance to enter the top biz.
  • HD DVD – There are various reasons why HD-DVD format lost out to Blu-ray. The most common reason being Sony did a better job convincing film studios to release HD editions of movies for Blu-ray.
  • Vonage – Vonage was predecessor of Voice-over-internet Protocol (VoIP). Currently, it’s a footnote in the growth of an industry ruled by products of cable companies and free service.
  • YouTube – The world’s largest video sharing site, was bought up by Google for $1.65 million (RS 7,672.5 cr) in November of 2006. Even though it’s big. YouTube hasn’t yet come up with a model to make money.

These were the five biggest tech failures yet.
