Well we never had that bite of android Froyo (v2.2) with us for a very long time, nor the launch of Nexus S with its delicious Gingerbread (v2.3). But recently Google Inc. Announced its latest offering of Android v3.0 aka Honeycomb at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Las Vegas. The OS is said to be scheduled for release in March this year.
The Announcement was made with Showcase of two tablets - The Motorola Xoom (were hoping it to be with Verizon) and The LG G-Slate (for T-Mobile). Both the tablets are powered by Nvidia Tegra 2, dual Core Processor based on the ARMv8 Architecture, and more than half a gig RAM on both! This I think is going to be the platform of the future for upcoming tabets as we remember the day when Google Nexus One set technological standards for mobile phones.
According to Google, the the latest build of Android OS for mobile platforms will include devices with larger displays (>3.5inch) and major tablets. Since we saw the coming of the tablet age with Apple’s iPad, and then successfully the Samsung Galxy Tab, Honeycomb here is set to dominate the market in hands of Google.
The Major features included in the New OS are briefly:
- New Holographic User Experience, with total upliftment from standard android user interface.
- New Notifications and refined multitasking.
- Access to more than 1,00,000 the Apps in the Android Market.
- Lots of widgets, better desgined blending with the new 3D interface.
- Newer web browser with Tabbed Browsing, Incongnito Mode and easy Google Chrome sync
- Honeycomb also features the latest Google Mobile innovations including Google Maps 5 with 3D interactions and offline reliability.
- Access to over 3 million Google eBooks, and Google Talk, which now allows you to video and voice chatwith any other Google Talk enabled device (PC, tablet, etc).
